Can you Repair a Damaged AGM Battery?

If your AGM battery has been damaged, you’re probably wondering whether you can get it repaired. Fortunately, the answer to that question is yes in most cases. However, it depends on exactly what’s wrong with your battery. Even if you are not able to repair it, replacements are covered by your warranty. Here’s what you need to know about repairing or replacing a damaged AGM battery:

Decide whether repair or replacement is the best option

While many damaged batteries can be repaired, sometimes this is simply not possible. For example, it’s usually not possible to repair a battery that has a severely damaged exterior or terminals. However, it is usually possible to repair a battery that simply does not have enough acid in it anymore.

Will charging your battery for an exceptionally long time allow it to hold a charge again?

If your battery is not holding its charge, charging it for longer will usually have no effect. This is because low acid levels or other problems with the battery are probably preventing it from charging efficiently.

Do you need to add more acid to the battery?

Unless some of the battery acid was spilt, you usually do not need to. Topping off the battery acid compartment with distilled water will often do the trick. However, keep in mind that it’s important to be extremely careful when you are doing this due to the highly toxic nature of battery acid. In most cases, you will be able to use this method several times to extend the lifespan of your AGM battery.

You won’t be able to extend the lifespan of your battery indefinitely

In most cases, an AGM battery will last for around four years. However, sulfation will eventually begin to occur, which will cause the plates inside the battery to no longer be able to react normally. This will prevent the battery from generating electricity. Luckily, techniques to repair a battery that’s no longer working can often keep it going until you’re able to get a replacement.

Fortunately, our batteries tend to last an exceptionally long time. That’s because we use the latest absorbent glass mat technology in all of our products, which makes them less susceptible to sulfation and leaks.
